It's a double business boom in one town as two different breweries are set to open, just down the road from one another.

Geneseo native, Steve Fiers is taking one of his hobbies and transforming it to a business in his hometown.

"It's going to be a combination production brewery and a tasting room and we're also going to serve food," said Fiers.

He's turning his love for craft beer into Lionstone Brewing. The brewery is under construction at a strip mall that has sat vacant for seven years. Along with making beer, it will have a wood fire pizza oven, not to mention a deck out back for a beer garden.

"That's what we're trying to be, a little different as far as the delivery of our food pairing with our beer and coming up with beer recipes that people really like even non-beer drinkers," said Fiers.

Just down the road to downtown Geneseo, another brewery is under construction. Geneseo Brewing Company hopes to add more life to downtown.

"The change is exciting, haven't been a lot of new things come here, especially something that hasn't been here before," said Jerrod Minnaert, owner of Geneseo Brewing Company.

He hopes his business will keep locals in the area while drawing outsiders in.

"A meeting place in the community you know just kind of stop met friends not have to drive to the quad cities," said Minnaert.

His business will offer a variety of beer and serve appetizers from a local restaurant.

"Do another little adventure to compliment what we already have in town but to take it a step further," said Minnaert.

Neither business owners say they're worried about competition.

"In fact I'm excited about it because it gives uh people another reason to come to Geneseo," said Fiers.

Both Breweries say they are hoping to be open by this summer.
