What started as a routine stop for speeding turned into a California man getting arrested for allegedly carrying drugs and a lot of cash.
Ryan Watson, 21, of Summerland, California, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet HHR on Interstate 80 near Seneca Road in Grundy County when he was pulled over for speeding at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015.
The trooper reportedly smelled marijuana inside the vehicle as he spoke with Watson, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.
“Upon further investigation, the trooper uncovered 12 grams of cannabis, 25 hits of the controlled substance (LSD) and $14,950 in U.S. currency,” the statement said.
Watson was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawful possession of cannabis.
Watson was held in the Grundy County Jail.
