Iowa caregiver accused of punching disabled adult

An employee of an agency, that provides services to disabled people, faced criminal charges after he allegedly punched a client in the face.

Francis Njoroge, 41, of Iowa City, was working for Systems Unlimited when he was assigned to take a client of the agency to a park just before 5 p.m. October 28, 2014, according to police.

As Njoroge drove the Systems Unlimited van, he reportedly became annoyed with the alleged victim.

“The victim was annoying Njoroge and Njoroge struck the victim in the face twice,” said a report filed by Coralville, Iowa police. “After striking the victim, the victim bit Njoroge on the right forearm and hand. Njoroge again struck the victim in the face with a closed fist, causing abrasions and bruisiung.”

Court records showed Njoroge was charged with one count of felony dependent adult abuse with intentional physical injury. A warrant was issued for his arrest December 31, 2014.

Coralville Police arrested Njoroge Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 12:45 p.m.

Court records showed Njoroge was held in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond after he made his first court appearance on the charge January 21.
