An overloaded electrical outlet caused a fire that smoldered in the wall of an apartment in Clinton, Iowa.

Fire was reported in a lower apartment inside a house in the 600 block of 6th Avenue just before 5 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2015.

Firefighters reported moderate smoke in a wall on the porch.

“The wall was opened and the fire was quickly extinguished limiting fire spread,” said Clinton Fire Department Lt. Greg Forari.

“This fire should serve as a reminder to check your smoke detectors to make sure they are present and in working condition,” Forari said.

There were smoke detectors installed but they weren’t in working condition at this fire.

No injuries were reported.
