John Deere Road reopens hours after man struck and killed

Traffic was blocked after a man died of injuries suffered when he was trying to cross John Deere Expressway in Moline, Illinois.

Traffic was blocked after a man died of injuries suffered when he was trying to cross John Deere Expressway in Moline, Illinois.

The wreck was reported just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2015 at the intersection of 60th Street and John Deere Road.

The intersection provides access from John Deere Road to homes, the Menards and Blain’s Farm and Fleet stores and to Green Valley Park.

“The 45-year-old male pedestrian was crossing John Deere Expressway when he was struck by a 2007 Ford Explorer,” said Moline Police Department spokesman Detective Scott Williams.

The man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity was withheld until his family could be notified of his death.

John Deere Road was closed to all traffic east of 53rd Street, Williams said.  Eastbound traffic was being detoured onto 53rd Street.

Moline Police confirmed that the roadway was reopened after 5 p.m.
