A local man already in prison for home invasion now faces charges in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old.

Police said Damien Howard was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest when he was found, in a vehicle that had crashed into a light pole in the 1100 block of 6th Avenue in Rock Island, just after midnight January 15, 2012.  Damien later died at a local hospital.

Howard’s family said at that time they thought the shooting was part of an ongoing Davenport-Rock Island feud.

A 23-year-old man, already serving a prison sentence for home invasion, was indicted by a grand jury January 8, 2015 for Damien Howard’s death.

Dentrell Brown was charged in Rock Island County with one count of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm according to Rock Island Deputy Police Chief Jason Foy.

Prison records showed Brown was previously expected to be paroled from Big Muddy Correctional Center in September 2016.

Foy said the new charges carried a bond set at $1 million.
