A Florida officer was performing a routine traffic stop when the car fled, injuring him.
Dash cam video captured the incident that happened in early January 2015.
According to a report by Fox10 News, Sgt. Kerstan Tatro pulled over 30-year-old Amy Lee Giorgio for speeding.
Tatro had reportedly seen Giorgio driving erratically, allegedly traveling at 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.
During the traffic stop, the video shows Tatro at the driver’s side window talking to the driver. According to the report Tatro noticed Giorgio putting her vehicle into gear and tried to stop her.
Tatro reached into the window to take Giorgio’s keys out of the ignition, Fox10 News reported. With his arm partly in the vehicle, the car sped off, dragging Tatro a short distance behind it.
As Tatro falls to the ground, you can see vehicles pulling up to the scene, and citizens getting out of their cars to help.
One of the passersby was Tatro’s teenage daughter. She can be heard in the video identifying the officer as her dad.
“She was screaming, “My dad, that’s my dad,”” Tatro said, according to the report. “I was thinking what is she doing here?”
Tatro suffered a compound fracture to his right arm.
“He’s going to be in the hospital for several days due to the break in the arm, just making sure no infection or anything occurs,” said Deputy Chief Rick Hawthorne with Tatro’s department. “But he’s moving around and is doing good.”
Online court records showed that Giorgio was in custody in the Escambia County Jail as of Sunday, January 11. She faced charges from two different law enforcement departments including drug possession, aggravated battery, and eluding police.
