As the QC could see negative wind chills most will stay inside, but for others they have no choice. Many shelters are offering a hot meal and a warm place to stay.

More than ten years ago Kenny Anderson's life wasn't where he wanted it to be.

"Was just having a really hard time coping with life at the time and I came here," said Anderson.

Christian Care in Rock Island was able to get Anderson back on his feet and offered him a job. Now he helps others who are going through the same struggle.

"Anyone who comes in are welcomed to eat," said Anderson, who's the food services coordinator at Christian Care.

Not only does Christian Care offer a hot meal, but a warm place for those who have no where else to go but the streets.

"We're also a warming station. If they're outside in the cold they're welcomed to come in and give them all the help we can, blankets, coats," said Anderson.

On a cold night shelters can expect to see a packed house.

"We can be very busy, where we're almost full. When we have open beds, they're not open for too long," said Anderson.

Christian care serves meals Monday through Sunday, while on the side of the river in Davenport the Salvation Army serves meals Monday Through Saturday.
