Fight with police leads to prison sentence for Davenport man

A Davenport man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after he fought off police, and officers discovered he was armed.

A Davenport man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after he fought off police, and officers discovered he was armed.

Officers pulled over an SUV after the vehicle and occupants matched the description of a burglary reported in Davenport, Iowa on March 20, 2014.  When they were attempting to arrest 33-year-old Ronnell Henderson, he swung his arm and hit one of the officers and then ran according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt.

Two other officers caught up with Henderson and struggled with him as he kept his hands underneath him and continued to resist, Klinefeldt said.

After they got control of Henderson’s hands, officers found a loaded revolver in the right-front pocket of Henderson’s jacket.

“The firearm seized was an Uberti Outlaw 44/40 caliber revolver loaded with five rounds, which had been reported stolen in February 2011,” Klinefeldt said.

Henderson had a previous felony robbery conviction, and he was charged in federal court for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Henderson pleaded guilty and he was sentenced Friday, December 19, 2014 to 100 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.
