On Sunday, a group of about twenty people gathered at the Quad City International Airport to welcome their friend, Irina Volk, home from three months of marine boot camp."It's been very hard seeing her gone for very long but it's good to see her coming home," said one of her friends, Cheyenne Claussen.
The U.S.O. and Patriot Guard members are stationed at the airport every day during the busiest flight times, greeting military members home for the holidays.
"It's the least that we can do to show our honor and actually show that we respect them and the job that they perform for us," said Doug Boemecke, a Patriot guard rider.
Sunday's homecoming for Irina Volk was no different."She's always been a tough girl for being a small girl and I just think she's always been inspired to be fighting for the country and standing for the country," said Dan Doebel, Volk's youth group leader.

Volk's friends greeted her with homemade signs and American flags in the airport lobby. However it was the tears and bear hugs that made the homecoming special.

"We're all just very proud of her," said another one of Volk's friends, Mel Molsberry.

Patriot guard members and the U.S.O will be stationed at the airport during the busiest flight times throughout the day right up through Christmas Eve.
