Traffic stop leads to Carroll County meth bust

Police said a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a methamphetamine-making lab in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

Police said a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a methamphetamine-making lab in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

Carroll County deputies stopped a car in the 100 block of State Road at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014.  A trained police dog alerted to possible narcotics in the vehicle.

The driver, 35-year-old Jeremiah Mallow of Mt. Carroll, was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine.

The traffic stop led investigators to search an apartment in the 100 block of West Benton Street about four hours after the traffic stop.

That's where they arrested 36-year-old John Gallacher, who was charged with possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials, meth delivery and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Jail records showed Mallow and Gallacher remained in the Carroll County Jail as they awaited their first appearance in court.
