Davenport city leaders are considering a walk bridge that would go over River Drive in the city. Council members will consider that at a City Council Work Session on Monday, December 15, 2014.

According to the master plan from a year ago, the city will consider putting the bridge just north of River Drive and Fourth Street. It would go across the street and land at the new River Heritage Park. That way residents could walk to the park from the downtown area. The park opened back in October of 2013.

Back in June, the city dedicated the park's $100,000 pavilion. The Black Hawk War Treaty  was signed at River Heritage Park back in 1832. Quad City Chamber leaders say the east end of downtown Davenport is a historic entryway into the city.

"It's the gateway to Davenport," Downtown Davenport Partnership Director Kyle Carter said in June. "People come off the Arsenal and get here from Rock Island. This is one of the biggest first impressions that you get."

City Council Member Bill Boom says the environmental group, River Action, will try to raise enough money to pay for the project. A timetable for construction has not been laid out. Nothing will be approved at Monday's meeting. But it starts at 5:30 p.m. at Davenport's City Hall.
