At nearly 1,000 locations, including the Rock Island National Cemetery, people are making sure every veteran - even those who are no longer with us - is not forgotten this holiday season.

On Saturday, December 13th, 2014, the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony took place on the Rock Island Arsenal and hundreds of other places across the country and overseas.

As part of the worldwide movement, members from every branch of the military placed wreaths at the headstones of more than 32,000 veterans who are buried at the Rock Island National Cemetery. POW/MIA were also included.

"I spoke with a Gold Star Mother just before I came over here and she was so thankful," said Col. Darren Werner, Chief of Staff for the Army Sustainment Command. "After 9 years for her, this is just a great  way for her to remember and to have other people recognize the service and the sacrifice of her son."

Wreaths Across American is a national non-profit which started more than 21 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company, a for-profit commercial business from Harrington, Maine, started a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of our nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery during the holidays.
