An Iowa City man faced criminal charges after he allegedly tricked women into sending him photos of themselves wearing lingerie.

Sean Patrick Boies, 29, was accused of stealing student identifications and passwords of University of Iowa students, and using that information to create a phony profile on the internet survey platform Qualtrics.

Police said Boies admitted to using a phishing scheme to get the student IDs in December 2013 and January 2014.

Criminal complaints allege that on two separate occasions, Boies pretended to represent Victoria’s Secret in surveys he published on Qualtrics.

Boies was accused of promising “selected winners” an invitation to a private photo shoot in Miami in a survey he posted in January 2014, asking women to submit photos of themselves in a bra and lingerie.  He got 510 responses to the survey, the complaint said, and he got photos from two respondents.

Boies was also accused of offering a $25 gift card to participants when he allegedly again posed as a Victoria’s Secret representative.  Police said Boies asked for, and got, information from nearly 6,300 survey respondents between December 1, 203 and May 31, 2014.  Police said Boies admitted he never sent the gift card to people who completed the survey.

Police said Boies was arrested at his apartment in Iowa City, Iowa December 10, 2014.

Court records showed Boies was charged with two counts of identity theft and one count of unauthorized computer access.

Jail records showed Boies was released on his own recognizance from the Johnson County Jail the day after he was arrested.
