Two Iowa men, blessed with creativity, have a knack for taking trashed items and turning them into treasure.
Dale Howe and Jimmy Merrill of Ogden, Iowa, use old junk, discarded bicycles and miscellaneous parts to make one-of-a-kind bikes, WHO-TV reported.
Howe and Merrill then donate their creations to auctions that support charities.
Their Easy Rider tribute sold for more than $1,100.
“I got everything I need, you know; I’ve got a roof over my head, I’ve got food every day, my dogs eat – don’t need nothing more,” Howe said.
The dynamic duo has plans to use the proceeds from their latest creation to build a bike to benefit the family of Kathlynn Shepard. She was 15 years old when she and another girl were abducted after they got off their school bus in Dayton, Iowa in May 2013. The 12-year-old escaped, but Kathlynn’s body was found weeks later, in the Des Moines River.
“It’s going to be all purple with white roses on it,” Merrill said, “and I tell you, it’s going to be beautiful.” They hoped to have that project completed by early spring.
