A Davenport man was killed when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned.

Allen Sindt, 83, tried to maneuver over a downed log when the wreck happened in Stephens State Forest, northwest of Unionville, Iowa, just after 2 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 according to a statement from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Sindt’s ATV overturned and rolled on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the DNR statement said.

Sindt was in the forest as part of a hunting party, and he had a valid permit to operate the ATV, the DNR statement said.

Sindtco-owned Julie & Al’s Bar with his wife, Julie until he retired in 1999 according to an online obituary for him.

Visitation was planned for Thursday, December 11 and funeral services were planned for Friday, December 12, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, the obituary said.
