The skywalk connecting Genesis Medical Center and Genesis Heart Institute was damaged when a truck hit it and then reportedly left the scene.
The bottom of the skywalk, which is 13 feet 6 inches above the ground, was struck by a large truck traveling westbound on Rusholme Street at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 according to a spokesman for Genesis Health.
The driver did not stop, the spokesman said.
“There is a lot of construction going on at the East Rusholme Street campus but the truck was not part of any of the construction crews,” the spokesman said.
An unrelated water main break on Eastern Avenue had previously forced traffic to be rerouted onto Rusholme Street, and it was possible the truck was among the vehicles detoured to avoid the area of the water main break.
A structural engineer was evaluating the damage. The skywalk was expected to remain open.
