Moline fatal house fire

Fire investigators said they were still looking into the cause of a house fire that killed a 67-year old Moline woman over the weekend.

“It was originally reported as a garage fire. As they searched the house, they eventually came across a victim,” said Capt. Jim Versluis, with the Moline Fire Department.

It happened around 7 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 2803 19th Street in Moline.

Authorities later identified the fire victim as Julie Krebs.

Nothing about the fire seemed suspicious, but it had been burning for “awhile” by the time firefighters were notified, Versluis said, and a lot of evidence was destroyed.

It was not known if there were working smoke detectors in the home.

The Rock Island County Coroner says Krebs likely died of smoke inhalation.
