Take a look: Christmas at the White House

In early December 2014, First Lady Michelle Obama gave a preview of the Christmas decorations inside the White House.

This year’s theme “A Children’s Winter Wonderland” celebrates the pureness brought by the holiday season, as if seen through the eyes of a child, according to the White House website.

The theme is illustrated by the decor which includes a 300 pound gingerbread house, 3D printed ornaments, and 26 Christmas trees.

Some of the decor also pays tribute to the Armed Forces and their families. Gold star ornaments in the East Wing honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

One of those 26 trees includes the Official White House Christmas Tree which stands 18-feet tall. It was set up in the Blue Room and honors service of troops, veterans and military families. Many ornaments on the tree are thank you cards to the troops written by children.
