Quad Citians march for justice, hold “die-in”

People in the Quad Cities joined nationwide demonstrations by marching on both sides of the river and holding a “die-in.”

People across the country continue to protest the grand jury decisions in the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Saturday, December 6, 2014, dozens of people in the Quad Cities joined in by marching on both sides of the river and holding a "die-in."

The rally started at LeClaire Park in Davenport at noon. The group then marched to the Davenport Police Department. From there, they marched across the Centennial Bridge and stopped at the Rock Island County Courthouse where they held a "die-in," lying on the ground with their eyes closed.

"We just want to stand for something and let you know that this is happening in the Quad Cities. What happened in Ferguson, could happen here, it could happen everywhere," said Laure Jackson, one of the demonstrators.

"I have a 7-year-old son and I have a 5-year-old daughter and I don't want them to have to experience the things that other people around the country are experiencing. I don't want to have a talk with my son about how he may need to behave, which is different than anyone else, conversations that other parents may not need to have with their children, if they're not minority children," said Karen Davis.

The entire rally and march lasted approximately two hours.
