It's been a tradition in the Quad Cities and it started this morning in the Moline-Coal Valley school district. All the money raised will go to help hundreds of kids.

Kelly Head unloads raffle baskets out of her car, hoping all of them go home with a bidder. Every dollar spent on them will help a student in need.

"Not every kid has a new pair of shoes or a new article of clothing," said Moline PTSA President, Kelly Head.

The auction is just a small part of a week full of fundraisers. Moline High School students kicked off the 65th Share Joys campaign with a doughnut eating contest.

"It's hilarious because everyone gets to dress up in costumes," said Moline High School senior, Hailey Cook.

Money raised will help elementary and middle school students in their district stay warm this winter.

"They'll go out and purchase new clothes and shoes for those students and those students may choose to put in an item for a parent or sibling," said Head.

Last year the campaign helped more than 260 students and passed the $1 million mark in donations. Not only is it a fun way for high school students to get involved, but it's a way to share joy with others this holiday season.

"It's wonderful thing to come back to school after the holiday break and have a new outfit, you know it builds their self-esteem as well," said Head.

Students will raise money all week and then go shopping for clothes on December 14 with students receiving gifts just before Christmas.
