Police said an 18-year-old girl from Eldridge died when a van she rode in was involved in a wreck at 53rd and Brady streets in Davenport, Iowa.

Connor Speer, 19, from Rock Island, Illinois, was driving a Dodge Caravan eastbound on 53rd Street when the van moved into the left turn lane and drove into the path of a northbound UPS tractor-trailer at the intersection at about 1 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 according to a spokesman for the Davenport Police Department.

The UPS tractor-trailer broadsided the passenger side of the Caravan, and both vehicles ended up on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Caravan passenger, 18-year-old Marissa Ertz of Eldridge, Iowa, died of injuries she suffered in the crash, the spokesman said.

Speer had to be extricated from the van before being taken, by ambulance, to a local hospital.

The tractor-trailer driver, identified by police as 54-year-old Ronald Calvert of Washington, Illinois, was not hurt.
