A Davenport, Iowa man, whose conduct  near the White House raised suspicion from law enforcement, has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in the District of Columbia.

R.J. Kapheim was arrested Wednesday, November 19, 2014, after he reportedly approached a uniformed officer and claimed he had an appointment to see the president.   Initial reports indicated Kapheim said someone had sent him to the White House.  Police reported finding a 30-30 rifle, more than 40 rounds of ammunition and a knife in Kapheim’s car.

Kapheim pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of possession of an unregistered firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition at a court hearing Monday, November 24, 2014, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

“Judge John McCabe ordered that he remain held without bond pending sentencing on January 26, 2015,” the spokesman said.

Each of the charges carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.
