Fatality reported when semi and van collide at 53rd and Brady

Police blocked several lanes of traffic after a serious crash that appeared to involve a semi and a passenger vehicle at 53rd and Brady streets in Davenport, Iowa.

An officer at the scene confirmed one person was killed in the wreck that was reported around 1 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014.  Snow was continuing to fall and roads were slick at the time of the crash.

Westbound lanes of 53rd Street were blocked from Tremont to Brady as emergency workers remained at the scene nearly an hour after the wreck was reported. Brady was down to one open lane and eastbound 53rd Street was also reduced to one open lane.

The semi was northbound on Brady Street when it struck the passenger side of the eastbound van, according to a statement later issued by a a spokesman for the Davenport Police Department.

One person in the van died, the spokesman said.  Another person in the van was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the semi-tractor trailer did no sustain serious/life threatening injuries,” the statement said.

The identities of the people involved in the crash had not yet been released.
