West of Indianapolis, Indiana, more than 2,000 piglets spilled onto I-74 after a semi overturned.
The semi was hauling piglets from a North Carolina farm and was headed to Iowa when it crashed on the ramp from northbound I-465 onto I-74, according to a report by WXIN.
The crash happened Thursday evening, November 20, and there were 2,058 pigs aboard; about 700 died in the crash.
The rest of the pigs had to be gathered by the Wayne Township Fire Department, a process which took more than three hours.
According to the fire department, the hauler was a normal mode of transport for that amount of pigs, WXIN reported.
The pigs were taken to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The cause of the wreck was unknown.
