The annual festival of trees parade on Saturday, November 22 kicked off the holiday season, with area marching bands, helium balloons, and the WQAD News 8 team waving to spectators.

Following the parade, people in the Quad Cities got to head over to Festival of Trees where dozens of Christmas trees lined the halls at the River Center in downtown Davenport. The event raised funds for the Quad city Arts while also giving people ideas for the holidays.

“We like to get ideas for decorating our tree at home and the kids love this area for going around and doing the games and crafts,” said Shannon Churchill, who traveled from Port Byron, Illinois for the festivities.

Finally the annual Lighting on the Commons drew hundreds of people to the Illinois side.

Families enjoyed free hot cocoa and cookies while waiting in line for tractor rides, and the chance to meet Santa.

While there emceeing the event, WQAD meteorologist Eric Sorensen closed the evening by asking the Mayor of Moline to flip the switch for the official lighting ceremony, along with a show of fireworks.
