A Davenport man arrested near the White House after a rifle, ammo and knife were found in his car said he had an appointment with the president.
ABC News reported that R.J. Kapheim was set to be held in jail until a hearing on Friday, November 21, 2014.
Kapheim was arrested Wednesday after he approached a uniformed officer about a block from the White House saying someone had told him to go there.
Court documents filed Thursday, November 20 said Kapheim had approached a Secret Service post that day and said he had an appointment with the president, according to ABC's report. It was determined that he did not have an appointment.
Kapheim was not threatening in any way, according to a spokesman for the Secret Service, but authorities deemed his behavior to be suspicious.
According to ABC's report, Kapheim showed officers where his car was and let them search it. Inside, officers reportedly found a 30-30 rifle, more than 40 rounds of ammunition, and a knife.
Kapheim was arrested and held on charges of possessing an unregistered firearm, according to a spokesperson for the Secret Service.
