A big decision by the Environmental Protection Agency is giving a temporary victory to Iowa and Illinois corn farmers.

The EPA now says it is delaying its decision to reduce the amount of ethanol in fuel.

The environmental agency says it will delay to next year the decision that was expected this year.

Iowa and Illinois farm groups, and many area politicians, lobbied against the EPA's planned rule changes.

"We're pleased the Environmental Protection Agency and the Obama Administration halted their ill-advised proposed rule for the time being, but unfortunately, this decision only creates more uncertainty," said Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad in a Friday morning statement.

A decision by the EPA to lower the Renewable Fuel Standard would likely affect future renewable fuel production and the construction of new facilities around Iowa and Illinois.
