When two men used a toy gun to allegedly try to rob his store, an Illinois bakery owner shot one of the suspects seven times.

The first suspect reportedly looked like he was on his cell phone when he walked into the Calumet City Bakery at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014. After he signaled and a second suspect followed him into the store, the first man showed a gun and announced a robbery according to our sister station WGN-TV.

The clerk complied and handed over the cash, but it all dramatically changed when the armed man then forced the clerk to the back of the store.

The store owner was there and had seen the whole thing on closed-circuit surveillance TV. The store owner reportedly shot the armed suspect seven times.

The wounded man was found in a car about a block from the store. Investigators discovered the gun he had was actually a toy.

The second suspect remained at large.
