Secret Service agents arrested a 41-year-old Davenport, Iowa man after he reportedly told police that someone told him to go to the White House.
R.J. Kapheim reportedly made the statement after he approached a uniformed officer at the corner of 15th Street and E Street NW, about a block from the White House, just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Kapheim was not threatening in any way, according to a spokesman for the Secret Service, but authorities deemed his behavior to be suspicious.
Officers searched Kapheim's 2013 Volkswagen Passat, which was parked on Constitution Avenue between 15th and 16th streets NW, and reportedly found a 30-30 rifle and more than 40 rounds of ammunition in the car.
A 6-inch fixed blade knife was also found in the car, the Secret Service spokesman said.
Kapheim was arrested and held on charges of possessing an unregistered firearm, according to a spokesperson for the Secret Service.
More charges were possible, the spokesman said.
