The City of Davenport was reviewing its policies after a dog died in an animal trap set by a seasonal city employee.

Wrigley, a Corgi-Dachshund mix, was running off-leash when he was snared in a trap set for raccoons in Credit Island Park.  Wrigley died.

Two days later, the man who set the trap said he was grief-stricken over what happened to Wrigley.

Police later determined the man was a licensed trapper and seasonal employee for the city’s Parks Department.  He told investigators he had set ten traps, as he had been asked to do in the past as part of his work for the City of Davenport, according to a statement from Davenport Police Captain Dale Sievert.

“Because of these statements, internal reviews of policies within the City of Davenport are being reviewed in an effort to make sure that an incident of this nature does not occur again,” Sievert said.

No charges had been filed in connection with the incident.

“All aspects of the trapping, use of traps, and types of traps will be evaluated and coordinated through the City of Davenport departments responsible for this activity,” Sievert said.
