The man facing charges in connection with a Mediapolis, Iowa vehicle burglary became a fugitive when he failed to appear in court.

Joshua Melton, 27, was arrested Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Police said Melton matched the description of a person who was allegedly seen, trying to break into a vehicle, on Blaine Street just after 2 a.m. Investigators said they also found evidence when they searched a home about a block away from where they found Melton.

Melton was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools, and police said they thought he was involved in a vehicle break-in that happened back in February 2014. Melton was released on the same date of his arrest, after posting 10% of his $25,000 bond.  He had a court appearance scheduled in the case for Friday, November 14.

Two bench warrants were issued for his arrest after Melton allegedly failed to appear in court Friday morning, November 14. The warrants each carried a $25,000 cash-only bond.

Investigators did not yet confirm whether Melton might be connected to a series of vehicle and garage burglaries reported over several months in Mediapolis.
