A pancake fundraiser served as a dual purpose for the Colona Fire Department.
The department held their annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser Sunday morning, November 9, 2014, hoping to raise money for firefighting equipment, but that wasn’t the only good thing about the event. Chief John Swan said it was a great way for the community to get to know the firefighters working with the department.
“It’s a chance to get them out of the house, come down, visit the fire station, meet their firefighters, and it’s a way of interconnecting with our public,” Swan explained. “It works great for us.”
Colona residents and other visitors at the breakfast got pancakes, sausage, eggs, and biscuits with gravy.
After holding the pancake breakfast multiple times, the department has gotten serving many people down to a science. An extra help was the large pancake skillet made by a Colona resident- allowing servers to make several pancakes at once.
