After a tightly-contested race, several media outlets declared Republican challenger Bruce Rauner the winner in the race to be governor of Illinois.

By about 10:20 p.m. November 4, 2014, ABC News reported 95% of precincts had been counted in Illinois and Rauner had 50% of all votes counted in the state.

Our sister station WGN declared Rauner the winner with 8,865 of the state’s 10,113 precincts reporting. Their results showed Rauner won with 50%, or 1,473,224 votes over 47%, or 1,385,071 votes counted for Incumbent Democrat Governor Pat Quinn.

NBC Chicago also declared Rauner the winner just before 10:30 p.m. on Election Night.

With 99% of all precincts reporting the morning after the election, Rauner had received 51% of votes counted, with a total of 1,757,569 votes for Rauner.  Quinn had 46% of the Illinois vote, receiving 1,589,993 votes.

Quinn later told supporter it was too early to really determine the true winner of the race, and that it would likely take days to complete counting all ballots in Illinois.  Watch his remarks - click here.
