That knock at your door could be a last-minute attempt to get your vote

In the final days before Election Day, it's less about the events, big dinners, and signs, and more about making a personal connection with the voters.

At the Scott County Republican Headquarters in Davenport, volunteers are making hundreds of phone calls and going door to door.

"The momentum certainly has increased as it always does when we get closer to the election," said Scott County Republican Chair, Judy Davidson.

"We're looking at who's going to control the US senate and also the Iowa senate," Davidson said. "Some people are fed up with government and fed up with politicians but the way to help turn that around is to excersise your ability to vote."

At the Scott County Democratic Headquarters, volunteers are focusing more on making contact with the voters face-to-face.

"To reach out and directly touch a voter at their door is far more effective than even the phone call. So there's a bigger investment on getting people to the door," said Scott County Democratic Chair, Susan Frembgen.

According to the Scott County Auditor, early voting may play a larger role this time around. In the 2010 election, 19,000 people voted early.

This year, so far, there have been 34,000 ballots sent in already.

However, there's still a large number of voters who will wait until Tuesday to cast their votes. That's why it is important for candidates and volunteers to keep pushing ahead.

U.S. Representative Bruce Braley, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, stopped by the Democratic Headquarters on Sunday to thank his constituents.

"This is a very tight race and that means turnout is critical," said Braley. "You have two days to close the deal and talk to as many people as you can."
