Congressional candidates Bobby Schilling and Cheri Bustos and their staggers were involved with a back-and-forth over an audio recording that left a Bustos employee out of work.

Comments made by Bustos’ staffer Heidi Schultz were recorded back in December 2013.  In the audio recording, Schultz can be heard making comments about a part of Rockford that Bustos said she considers “unacceptable.”

Schilling’s camp claimed to have gotten the recording three months ago, but didn’t release it until the last week of October 2014 so they could ensure the recording was authentic.

In a statement released Monday, October 27, Congresswoman Bustos said the comments were unacceptable.

The staff member on the audio recording resigned; and Bustos said she accepted the resignation.

“When we’re talking about this district, it’s a pretty sad statement when somebody’s the top person while you’re in Washington D.C., to make a comment like that,” said Schilling.
