Two soldiers who turned to politics are joining forces for a day on the campaign trail in Iowa.

Sen.  John McCain, (R) Arizona,  is making seven stops for Joni Ernst on Wednesday.

With just days to go, the critical Senate race comes down to voting.

"I'm only asking you to do one thing, my dear friends," Sen.  McCain said.  "One more mission, my veterans, get out and vote."

Speaking before an overflow crowd in Wapello,  Ernst says it's time for a new leader to step to the plate.

She says that she will work for veterans and active duty soldiers during a crossroads for America.

"We have failed policies in Washington, D. C.," she said.  "We have got to make a change."

This 99-county tour covers the campaign's final days.

Handshakes and smiles offer a personal touch before Election Day.

It's back to the basics. This is old-school campaigning to reinforce Ernst's surging popularity in recent polling.

"There's just excitement across Iowa," she said.  "No matter where we go, it's standing room only."

Every campaign moment counts in this neck-and-neck race with Rep. Bruce Braley, (D) Iowa.  That's why community events can still build momentum in the final days.

"Every vote is important," said Marcia Crooks, Letts, Iowa.  "This is one where turnout will definitely affect the election."

It's a chance for Republicans to grab Iowa's second Senate seat after 30 years.  That's not lost on the '08 Republican presidential nominee.

"That's why we're doing this," Sen. McCain concluded. "We've got to get every single vote out.  We could be up late on Election Night."

Still time for a couple of soldiers like McCain and Ernst to keep this race on the move.
