A convicted sex offender, who was about to be sentenced for failing to report to law enforcement, was found dead in his cell at the Scott County, Iowa Jail.

Lawrence Bonner, 33, was convicted of sexual exploitation of a three-year-old child in Cook County, Illinois according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. Bonner was 18 years old at the time of the offense, the registry said.

Bonner was listed as non-compliant on the Illinois registry for twice failing to report a change of address.

Scott County Jail records showed Bonner was arrested July 18, 2014, for one count of failure to register as a sex offender. Scott County authorities said Bonner was most recently from Parkview, Iowa.

Court records showed Bonner changed his previous not-guilty plea to a plea of guilty to the charge September 30, 2014. He was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, October 30.

Corrections officers found Bonner unresponsive in his cell at the Scott County Jail just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. He was pronounced dead at the jail.

An autopsy was planned according to Scott County Chief Deputy Sheriff Major Thomas Gibbs.

The cause of Bonner’s death was not yet released, Gibbs said.
