An 18-year-old died when the car he was driving collided with a semi on Highway 30 near Calamus, Iowa.

An 18-year-old died when the car he was driving collided with a semi on Highway 30 near Calamus, Iowa.

Police said the car was eastbound on Highway 30, about a mile west of Calamus, when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane into the path of an oncoming eastbound semi just after noon Monday, October 27, 2014.

“The semi driver observed the passenger car cross the center line.  He attampted to take evasive action, but the passenger car impacted the semi on the driver’s side,” said a statement from Lt. Tom Paarmann of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

The car driver, 18-year-old Connor Robinson of Oceanside, California, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

The semi driver, a 57-year-old man from Forrest Lake, Minnesota, was not hurt.
