Dog owners in Durant, Iowa would have had to start walking their dogs somewhere else if city council voted to ban all dogs from city parks.

In a statement to News 8, Deanna Cavin, the city's operations clerk, said they started getting complaints this spring about owners not picking up after their dogs. Cavin said the city had been "advertising the issue for months" and that there were "more than half a dozen complaints."

However, other dog owners felt the city wasn't giving them a chance.

"It's understandable, people aren't picking up after their pets, but we would like to see another alternative. Maybe put signs up, putting those little doggie-stations up. If there's something else that we can do instead of being so drastic," said Bob McCarthy, a dog owner in Durant, Iowa.

City Council voted for the third and final time on the issue at their meeting Monday, October 27, 2014.  They did not pass a ban, so dogs were still allowed in parks in Durant.
