A dodgeball tournament was held to benefit a North Liberty child who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
One-year-old Avery Flick is facing a battle with musculoskeletal cancer. She’s undergoing a year-long treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. The tournament was organized to help her family with medical and living expenses.
On Saturday, October 25, 2014 the tournament was held at North Central Junior High School in North Liberty. The event also included a silent auction and bake sale.
“Since Avery received her diagnosis just a few weeks ago – just three days after her first birthday and on her mom’s birthday, no less – we’ve been touched by so many people looking for a way to help,” said family friend and event organizer, Jessie Brown.
Brown said they wanted to be able to raise enough money so Avery’s family could focus on what was most important – getting her healthy again.
