Quad City Mallards Gear Up for the Season

The Quad City Mallards are ready to kick off their 2014-2015 season.

The Quad City Mallards are ready to kick off their 2014-2015 season. Their first game is Friday, October 24, 2014 at the i Wireless Center in Moline.

The team recently switched leagues, as the Central Hockey League, or the CHL, folded this year. Now the Mallards are a part of the ECHL, formerly the East Coast Hockey League. The Mallards will now compete with 27 other teams, as opposed to just six.

"We've been here for about two weeks, and we're just excited to get into the games," 2013-2014 leading scorer Jeff Lee said. "That's the fun part about hockey. Practicing is practicing, but the games are fun, so we're excited."

"We're getting kind of tired of playing ourselves out there, so it's going to be nice to get some new competition and finally get some games in out there," Mallards Right Winger Kyle Thomas said.

The Mallards play the Rapid City Rush Friday and Saturday night at the i Wireless Center. Both games start at 7 p.m.
