A Muscatine man will spend 14 years in prison for drug trafficking.

On Thursday, October 23, 2014, Chief U.S. District Judge James Gritzner sentenced 42-year-old Russell Lee Brossart to 14 years in prison for a federal drug trafficking offense, according to a release from the U.S. States Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt.

According to the release, from mid-November 2013 to late-February 2014, Brossart sold more than 50 grams of meth in the Muscatine area.

“Brossart knowingly distributed ice methamphetamine to multiple customers in the Muscatine area,” said the release.

The release indicated that in November of 2013, police had a confidential informant purchase crystal or “ice” meth from Brossart two times under surveillance. During that month, police searched Brossart’s vehicle, finding six grams of crystal meth.

The following February, police searched a vehicle Brossart drove and found more than 29 grams of crystal meth. The next day police searched his Muscatine home, and seized about 60 grams of crystal meth, a digital scale, and packaging materials, which all belonged to Brossart, according to the U.S. State’s Attorney.

In addition to the 14 years in prison, Brossart has been ordered to serve five years of supervised release and will have to pay $100 to the Crime Victims Fund.
