Davenport leaders will consider an urban coyote hunt at the council meeting on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Residents on the west end of Davenport say the problem is getting out of hand. Some people have actually found deer carcasses near their back yards. The city council could start allowing the bow hunting of coyotes, along with the city's urban deer hunt. Residents say that could keep the coyotes away from their back yards.

"Of course it's discomforting, since it was near my daughter's swing set, and she was younger at the time, so I didn't allow her to go outside by herself," Denise Hollonbeck said on October 6, 2014. "But just the fact that they were so close to the house, and that they had killed and eaten a deer, [that's scary.]"

Council members will also discuss allowing the shotgun hunting of coyotes on non-public property that is zoned agriculturally. Nothing is expected to be approved at the meeting Wednesday. A DNR biologist is expected to speak at 5 p.m. The council meeting is expected to start at 5:30 p.m.
