A four-year-old girl suffered serious injuries in a crash involving a Jeep that was rear-ended by a semi on Highway 61.
Police said the Jeep was northbound on Highway 61, and had slowed to turn right onto Coonhunters Road, when it was rear-ended by a semi tractor trailer just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014.
The Jeep went into the ditch and hit two steel posts that were there to protect a natural gas main valve.
“The 4-year-old, who was properly riding in a child safety seat installed in the back seat of the Jeep, was injured when one of the steel posts came through the vehicle’s window,” said a statement from Blue Grass Police Lt. Tim Lane.
The little girl was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City, and her condition was not known. Her name, and the name of the Jeep driver, were withheld by police.
The driver of the semi, Charles Yeoman of Ollie, Iowa, was cited for causing the crash, Lane said.
