After Mike Brown retired, Sergeant Thomas Gibbs was appointed Chief Deputy for the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
Gibbs became a deputy for the department February 9, 2004, and he was the department’s first canine handler. Before that, he was a law enforcement canine patrolman in the U.S. Air Force and he worked security and police positions in Washington D.C.
Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard credited Gibbs with playing a vital role in the department’s recent technology upgrades.
“As law enforcement progresses into the 21st Century, Tom Gibbs’ knowledge, expertise and work ethic will help buide the Sheriff’s Office, as we continue to embrace modern policing practices,” Conard said.
Gibbs’ appointment to the position of Chief Deputy was effective Monday, October 20, 2014.
