A freeze warning and a frost advisory have been issued for counties in and around the Quad Cities.

The freeze warning is in effect from 1 a.m. – 9 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 for Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Clinton, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, and Carroll Counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Light winds and cold conditions are expected to arrive in the area by early Saturday morning, leading to freezing temperatures north of Interstate 80 and temperatures in the mid 30s to near freezing with areas of frost south of I-80.

Any late season gardens or outdoor plants will be impacted.

“These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegitation,” said an NWS spokesperson. “Cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors for protection.”

The frost advisory, also in effect from 1 a.m. – 9 a.m., impacts Muscatine, Scott, Keokuk, Washington, Louisa, Jefferson, Henry (Iowa), Des Moines, Van Buren, Whiteside, Rock Island, Henry (Illinois), Bureau, Putnam, and Mercer Counties.

As with the freeze warning, it is recommended that any sensitive plants be covered or moved indoors.
