After a fire destroyed one building and damaged several others, one Quad Cities comedian is going to use laughter to try to help the victims from the fire.

Dan Bush is hosting a comedy show on October 18 at the Rock Island Brewing Company.

Ten comics will have eight minutes to tell their best jokes while the crowd will score them on a scale of 1-100. At the end of the night, the comedian with the best score will take home 25 percent of the door sales while the remaining 75 percent will be donated to the Downtown emergency Fire Fund at Modern Woodman bank.

"It's really just a call to action," Bush said. "I feel like those businesses have done so much for our community. I feel like it's only appropriate for us to do the same for them."

Bush said he got the idea from another Quad Cities comedy club, The Blacklist, who held a comedy show on October 4 and donated the proceeds to the victims in the Rock Island fire.

"I think comedy is a really good relief for that kind of poke fun at ourselves and poke fun at tough situations so that we can make light of them and just endure them a little bit easier," Bush said.
