The Quad Cities is getting a little taste of winter right at the beginning of October.

Some snowflakes were reportedly spotted Saturday morning, October 4, 2014. News 8 viewers said they saw flakes in Durant, East Moline and Bettendorf around 7:30 a.m. One viewer saw a few flakes in Galesburg around 8:30 a.m.

Overnight frost advisory issued

A frost advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service overnight from 1 a.m. – 8 a.m. Sunday in counties north and east of the QC.  Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Whiteside, Bureau, and Putnam Counties were included in the advisory.

“A cold airmass will combine with a period of clear skies and light winds to bring the threat for areas of frost overnight into early Sunday morning,” said a spokesperson from the NWS.

According to the NWS, frost is expected to show up in low lying areas protected from winds. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-30s.

Patchy frost is also possible late Saturday evening along and north of Interstate 80.  Click here for details from the National Weather Service.

The NWS recommended residents move any sensitive plants indoors.
