Dozens of drivers were pulled over in Iowa and Illinois in the Quad Cities Thursday, October 2, 2014, as part of a crackdown on speeding and other traffic violations.
Local officers and state troopers blanketed sections of area interstates to make a point.
"Today, we're trying to get people in compliance with Scott's law, the Move Over Law," said Trooper Garrett Tasker, with the Illinois State Police.
The law, passed back in 2002, is to try and keep first responders and highway workers safe.
"Some people are aware, but they do forget and they're so concerned with other distractions. Whether it be a cell phone or what they're doing on their way to work, they're not paying attention to the road," said Tasker.
Since 2012, two state troopers have been killed working traffic detail on Illinois interstates. Both were hit by trucks that did not move over.
Totals for the Quad Cities were not available late Thursday afternoon. Many of the drivers were issued warnings, like one trucker who failed to move over for a state highway truck on the shoulder of the road.
"He was trying to say there were cars in his way, he couldn't get over. He had enough time to adjust his speed and get over," said Garrett.
"I think everybody that works the road has had a close call. Just being on the shoulder, working a crash scene, winters are the worst."
